The ACFC Logo - what does it mean?
The AC Logo explained:
The Shape of Shield: This is a modern shaped shield, that symbolizes progress and class. The design within the outline is very cutting edge and it uses contemporary asymetrical technique to tie in all the clubs colours.
Colours: The colours are the traditional Gold (yellow), Red, Black and White. As you will notice the colours are almost in a Ying Yang patern which represents balance and movement. Gold pays homage to the traditional colour of the Capitals Soccer Club of Regina, one of the founding Clubs of the ACFC Club. Gold is the colour of Champions and Royalty and also one of the colours in Regina's flag. Gold/Yellow is also used in Saskatchewan's flag. Red is the traditional colour of the Austria Soccer Club of Regina, the second of the original founding Clubs of the ACFC Club.
Stars: Three 5 peak stars, which are the stars of champions, similar to the star that clubs (Boca Juniors, Argentina) and countries (Italy, England, Germany, Brazil) put on their crest when they win a Championship or a world cup. The Symbol is also for progress or revolution. The message behind the star is that we are progressive and strive for success. The three stars also represent each team AC has had in Nationals.
Motto: The banner is Gold in colour and the Motto is in Latin and reads "fortis et universi." This fits beautifully because it has so much meaning behind it. To have a motto in Latin gives a club credibility and prestige, and an association with a large organization with history. Why latin? It is the language of mottos. In addition, these are two very strong words, no pun intended. So what does it mean?
Well, the motto "Power, Strength, Unity" is "fortis et universi"
Fortis: Power and strength mean the same thing in Latin. The word encompases all that is valiant and brave. The Italian word "Forza" and our English word "Force" derive from it. It has gentle qualities as well as brute ones. Often used in military terms during the Roman empire it also has romantic qualities.
Universi: This means "all together" and the word unity derives from it. This also means "all people" or "an institution or association of different people". It is obvious that educational institutions of higher learning are called universities. The word itself does not imply an association of academics, but just an association of people.
et: means "and" or "both". It also bring to separate or related concepts together to make a stronger meaning. It is a marrying of concepts.
fortis et universi
All terms together make a very strong statement: Together we are strong. We are strong together. Power, Strength and Unity. All different people are strong together. Many positive meanings can be made out of this motto.
